Bucks beat Clippers for 5th straight win, Giannis scores 36

Giannis Antetokounmpo took over late and Milwaukee beat the Los Angeles Clippers 105-100 on Sunday to claim a fifth straight win.

After leading by as many as 11 in the third quarter, the Bucks went to the fourth trailing by four. Coming into the game Milwaukee was 0-10 on the season when trailing going into the final quarter, but Antetokounmpo couldn’t have cared less. All the two-time MVP did was score 17 of Milwaukee final 21 points, including a monster dunk with 10.3 seconds left to give the Bucks a three-point lead.

Antetokounmpo finished with 36 points, his fourth-straight game with 35 or more points. He added 14 rebounds, five assists and four blocks.

Khris Middleton had 19 points, eight assists and six rebounds for the Bucks, while Donte DiVincenzo had 11 points and Brook Lopez added 10.

Point guard Jrue Holiday returned after missing the last 10 games as part of the NBA’s COVID-19 safety protocols. He played 18 minutes, scoring two points and dishing out three assists.

The Clippers were paced by Kawhi Leonard’s 25 points and nine rebounds. Paul George had 16 points and Serge Ibaka contributed 15.

Milwaukee improved to 21-13 on the season and will look for its longest winning streak of the season when Denver comes to town Tuesday night.

Brewers open Cactus League play with 7-2 win over White Sox

Cactus League play got underway Sunday and Milwaukee got it going with a 7-2 win over the Chicago White Sox.

Eric Lauer got the start for the Crew, giving up a pair of runs in just one inning of work. Justin Topa followed him and gave up two hits, while the other four relievers didn’t allow a hit.

Milwaukee will face Arizona on Monday and you can hear the game on 96.7FM and 1670AM.

Wisconsin men's hockey team completes a sweep of Ohio State, Wisconsin women claim WCHA title

The fifth-ranked Wisconsin hockey team cruised to an easy 7-0 win Saturday over Ohio State to sweep the weekend series.

The Badgers started their scoring in the first period, as sophomore Cole Caufield found the back of net, but it was in the second period when Wisconsin blew the game open. Caufield scored just 37 seconds into the period. That was followed by goals from Dylan Holloway and Ty Emberson. For Holloway, it was his third goal of series and his 11th on the year.

Caufield wasn’t done, though. He completed the hat-trick just 1:59 into the third period, nabbing his 22nd goal of the season. Ty Pelton-Byce finished the scoring with a pair of goals later in the period.

Linus Weissbach finished with four assists, while Brock Caufield had a pair for the Badgers, who won for a 12th time in their last 16 games.

Cameron Rowe got the start in goal and was up the challenge, stopping all 21 shots he saw.

The Badgers improved to 17-8-1 overall and 15-6-1 in Big Ten play. It left Wisconsin sitting behind only conference-leader Minnesota in the standings.

UW will close out the regular season next weekend at Michigan State.

Women's hockey team clinches WCHA title

No. 1 Wisconsin erased a 3-2 lead in the final period to beat Minnesota-Duluth 4-3 in overtime and claim the WCHA regular season title.

The Badgers trailed 1-0 when Daryl Watts evened things up 4:14 into the second period. The Bulldogs would score the next two before Lacey Eden cut the lead in half at the 17:43 mark of the second.

The score stayed the same until there was less than two minutes left in the game and Brette Pettet beat the Minnesota-Duluth goalie to tie the matchup and send it to overtime.

Once there, the Badgers ended it quickly, with Watts knocking home the game-winner just 41 seconds into the extra period.

The win gave Wisconsin its ninth WCHA regular-season title and its fifth in the last six years.

The Badgers will now face Minnesota in the semifinals of next weekend’s WCHA Final Faceoff in Minneapolis.

Wisconsin's late rally comes up short in 74-69 loss to Illinois

No. 5 Illinois was missing its best player but that didn’t matter Saturday afternoon as the Illini held off a late Wisconsin run to beat the 23rd-ranked Badgers 74-69.

Illinois led by 12 with 2:13 left and the game appeared to be safely in the win column, but then D’Mitrik Trice took over. Playing in likely his final home game, the senior scored Wisconsin’s final 19 points, including a 3-pointer with 7 seconds left to make it 70-69. After hitting two free throws, the Illini never allowed the Badgers to get a look for a game-tying 3-pointer, fouling Trevor Anderson with 1.9 seconds left and essentially sealing the win.

Trice finished with 29 points (6-for-9 on 3P) before fouling out. Fellow senior Micah Potter was the only other player in double figures for Wisconsin, as he had 15 points and six rebounds.

Before Trice’s explosion, the Badgers offense was failing them, something that has become common place in the second half of the season. Wisconsin started 1-for-15 from the field and fell behind by 13 just 6:58 into the game. At one point in the second half the Badgers were shooting only 25% before finishing the game at 34.8%.

The Illini were without All-American guard Ayo Dosumu due to a broken nose, but it didn’t hurt them on the offensive end. Center Kofi Cockburn had a team-high 19 points and seven rebounds, as Illinois shot 52.1% from the field, including 55.6% from beyond the arc.

It was Senior Day for the Badgers and it was largely a forgettable one for several of Wisconsin’s veterans. Nate Reuvers, Brad Davison and Aleem Ford went a combined 5-for-26, as the Badgers dropped to 0-6 in games against the top four teams in the Big Ten.

Wisconsin is now 6-7 in its last 13 games and sits at 16-9 overall and 10-8 in conference play. The Badgers will close out the regular season with road games at Purdue and Iowa.

Wisconsin hockey beats Ohio State in overtime

It took a little extra work but the fifth-ranked Wisconsin hockey team earned a 2-1 win over Ohio State on Friday night.

The game was tied 1-1 after three periods, forcing the Badgers to go to overtime for a second straight game. But this one ended better and it did so quickly, as Dylan Holloway found the back of the net on the power-play just 42 seconds into the overtime period to give Wisconsin the win.

https://twitter.com/BadgerMHockey/status/1365506120907857922

The Badgers got on the board first in the game, taking a 1-0 lead on Holloway’s first goal of the night, which also came on a power play. He’s now got 10 goals on the season, which is the third-best mark on the team.

Ohio State answered on its own power-play in the second period when Gustaf Westlund beat Robbie Beydoun. It was the lone shot to get by the goalie, who finished with 30 saves and picked up the win.

With the victory, Wisconsin improved to 16-8 overall and 14-6-1 in Big Ten play. Because all the teams in the conference won’t play the same number of games due to COVID-19 pauses, the winner of the Big Ten will be determined by winning percentage. Minnesota (.750) is currently at the top of the standings, while the Badgers (.690) are second.

Wisconsin and Ohio State will see each other again Saturday afternoon at LaBahn Arena.

Career night from Donte DiVincenzo helps Bucks to fourth straight win

A huge night from Donte DiVincenzo and big contributions from Milwaukee’s established stars powered the Bucks to a 129-125 win over New Orleans on Thursday night.

DiVincenzo scored a career-best 24 points and took a charge in the final minute to help the Bucks to seal the game. The former first-round pick added nine assists, tied for the most in his career, and seven rebounds to push Milwaukee to its fourth-straight win.

Superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo led all scorers with 38 points, becoming the first Bucks player since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1973 to score 35-plus points in three straight games. He added 10 rebounds and four assists, while sidekick Khris Middleton poured in 31 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Pelicans forward Zion Williamson paced his team with 34 points and eight rounds, while Brandon Ingram had 23 points and Lonzo Ball had 20.

The win allowed Milwaukee a measure of revenge after New Orleans won the first matchup between the two teams in late January.

The Bucks last 14 games include a five-game winning streak, a five-game losing streak and now a four-game winning streak. They’ll look to make it five in-a-row on Sunday when the LA Clippers come to Milwaukee.

Packers: Center Corey Linsley says 'all signs are pointing towards' playing somewhere else next season

It sound as if Corey Linsley believes his time in Green Bay has come to an end.

During an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio, the Packers center for the last seven seasons indicated there had been no contact between the team and his representatives.

“We’re not closing the door for anything. Obviously, we’d never do that for any team, especially the Packers, but, yeah, it definitely feels weird,” Linsley said Thursday. “Looks like all signs are pointing towards snapping the ball somewhere else next year.”

https://twitter.com/SiriusXMNFL/status/1365001466298077185

Linsley just finished his best season in the league, earning first-team All-Pro honors. A fifth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Ohio State product has started 99 games for the Packers and played in four NFC title games.

“It’s been phenomenal,” Linsley said of his time with Green Bay. “The guys that I came in there with and the leadership they had there and continue to have there to this day, has always been phenomenal. It’s been a wild ride. We’ve gotten close in four years and that will always be something that’s a little disappointing.”

Linsley, who will turn 30 before the start of the 2021 season, spent time during the interview talking about all the guys he’d played with and learned from during his career, including the likes of David Bakhtiari, Aaron Rodgers, Josh Sitton, TJ Lang and Bryan Bulaga.

“I’ll always have those memories and cherish them,” Linsley said. “Again, if it doesn’t work out, I wish them the best of luck. I want nothing but the best for them because those guys up there deserve it, man. They put in the work, they care about winning, they care about their performance and the team and everything. Can’t say enough about them.”

Linsley signed a three-year, $25.5 million contract extension near the end of the 2017 season and figures to get a hefty raise when he presumably hits the open market next month.
