Packers: CB Jaire Alexander undergoes knee surgery, season likely done

Unless the Green Bay Packers make it to the Super Bowl, fans have seen the last of cornerback Jaire Alexander this season.

Per multiple reports, Alexander underwent surgery on his injured knee this week. Coach Matt LaFleur said it was unlikely he would play again this year, though reports later indicated he could make it back if the team found itself playing for the Lombardi Trophy roughly five weeks from now.

Alexander suffered an injury to his PCL late in the team’s win over Jacksonville on Oct. 27. He missed the following week’s game against Detroit before Green Bay had its bye week. The two-time Pro Bowl selection returned against Chicago but lasted less than a quarter before his knee sidelined him again. Alexander wasn’t put on injured reserve and ended up returning to practice in full a couple weeks ago. But swelling and pain in the last week forced the procedure.

The soon-to-be 28-year-old has struggled to stay healthy in the last four years. He missed 12 games in 2021, played all 16 in 2022 before missing 10 games last year and then at least another 10 this season.

Green Bay closes out the regular season on Sunday against Chicago at Lambeau Field.
